Saturday 17 March witnessed a very special celebration in the life of St Finnian’s. With a huge sense of privilege and joy the Reverend Dr Margaret Dineley conducted the wedding of Ross Stirling and Ray Young, two highly-valued members of the congregation. It was indeed an historic occasion, the first wedding in the Church for ten years and the first same-sex Church wedding in Fife and probably in our Diocese.
There was a strong sense of warmth and Christian love and fellowship during the service and this was carried into the reception in the church hall, where everyone enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea with vintage china and glasses in a beautifully decorated and transformed hall.
Many people had contributed to make the day special, including the excellent musicians, Harry Cant on the organ and George Morrison on the saxophone. Flowers had been beautifully arranged by Janet Cant and the superb catering organised by Fife College, Kirkcaldy, and the whole gorgeous setting in the hall contributed to by Ross and Ray themselves, The Green Cockatoo with their vintage china and glasses, and other kindly and talented people.
A final, poignant cause for immense celebration came when Ross announced that, following the lengthy, traumatic treatment for cancer which he had so bravely endured, he had recently had a scan showing the all clear! A fantastic conclusion to a truly wonderful day.
